Burlesque star Dita Von Teese is not naturally a raven-haired beauty - she has been dying her blonde hair for 15 years. The 35 year old - real name Heather Renée Sweet - dislikes her naturally light-colored hair and spent years ( and tears) experimenting with a variety of colors before settling with black-black.

She says to some friends, "I have been dyeing my hair since I was 18. First, I was platinum blonde, then red, then burgundy. Finally one day there was nowhere else to go but black. I like the contrast between pale-skin and dark hair."

Mamie Van Doren

A great pinup and actress. Mamie van Doren was the first woman to sing rock and roll in a Hollywood musical, Untamed Youth (set in a women's prison). In the teensploitation drama High School Confidential, she played Russ Tamblyn's seductive "aunt". She played a hooker in 1959's Call Girl, and returned to prison for Girl's Town, which shocked censors with a shower sequence where audiences could see Van Doren's naked back. As Eve in The Private Lives of Adam and Eve she wore only fig leaves, and in many of her films, like Sex Kittens Go to College, Party Girls for the Candidate, or The Blonde from Buenos Aires, audiences knew what they were getting just from the title.

Tempest storm

Tempest Storm, who was one of the original classic Burlesque super stars, a red headed queen of the burlesque stage. A couple years after leaving her sharecropper home, she ended up in Los Angeles as a chorus line dancer.

Ms. Storm told her life story in a 1987 book titled Tempest Storm: The Lady Is a Vamp. A very recommended book.
